History
Jason Parks started his martial arts training in 1984 in traditional Shito Ryu Karate Do. Although training in many different forms of martial arts and teaching Karate and Tae Kwon Do Jason decided to “get serious” about martial arts study and went searching for masters of Classical Chinese Gong Fu, which had always been his passion. After 14 months of interviews Jason was accepted as a student of Shi De Chao. Shi De Chao was, at the time, the envoy for the Cao Tung Family of Song Shan Shaolin Temple, Henan China. In 1994 Jason received an invitation to be assessed as an instructor and travelled to China where he studied intensively, over several months, with Shaolin Master Shi De Shui. Whilst in China Jason was very fortunate to be introduced to a number of Masters and Disciples of the Shaolin Temple including Shi Su Xie, Shi Su Yin, Shi Su Yun, Xing Do and Xing Jing in particular.
Upon returning from China Jason started full-time teaching in Shaolin Gong Fu and ran the successful Shaolin Disciples Gong Fu Academy in Canberra.
After several years of study and assessment Jason took his vows as a Civil-Monk of the Cao Tung Tradition in Australia and became a live-in student of Shi De Chao in 1999.
In 2002 Jason “exchanged robes” and returned to laity.
In 2002 Jason founded Mountain Gate Academy.
In 2004 Shifu Jason Parks developed the framework of the Restorative Learning® system and started to integrate certain aspects of the Restorative Learning® into teaching and training processes. The results were promising and due to a unanimous response from Mountain Gate Academy members he decided to completely review MGA processes.
Toward the end of 2006 several of the Restorative Learning® practitioners and Jason Parks decided to give the MGA a complete overhaul and to fully integrate Restorative Learning®, its ethics, systems, concepts and tools, into the framework of the academy.
In 2007 MGA evolved to the next level with the development of a new curriculum that was more expansive than before and constructed completely from a Restorative Learning® framework.
